What is Herpes?

Herpes is an infection which is caused by (HSV) known as herpes simplex virus. It may result in blisters or sores to form around your mouth or genitals.

What are the types of Herpes?

There are two types of herpes simplex virus:

HSV-1 It can cause oral herpes, which affects your mouth.

HSV-2 It can cause genital herpes, which can be sexually transmitted.

What are the causes of Herpes?

HSV is a contagious virus that can be transmitted from different individuals through direct contact.

Causes of HSV- 1

Sharing Utensils

Sharing common utensils may result in the transfer of viruses from an infected person to a healthy person, so it is advisable not to share your utensils with anyone. Also, maintain

Kissing

Kissing may lead to the transfer of the virus from infected lips to healthy lips. It is advisable to avoid kissing a person suffering from Oral blisters till he recovers.

Sharing lipstick or lip balm

Whenever a person applies lipstick or lip balm he may leave virus and bacteria on the lipstick and lip balm as well, and sharing may transfer those on your lips. So it is advisable not to share them.

Cause of HSV- 2

Sexual Contact

Infection may occur in the following ways:

  1. Sharing sex toys.
  2. Having anal or vaginal sex without using a protection.
  3. Having a oral or sexual contact with a person who is suffering from Herpes.

Oral Sex

It can cause blisters, which are also known as fever or cold sores. They can develop around your mouth and lips. Generally, these blisters are found on the face, tongue and can be rarely found on other areas of skin as well. They may last up to 2 to 3 weeks.

Sores on lips

Itching or burning on Infected area

Home Remedies

You can apply fresh Aloe vera gel to the sores.

Sprinkling fresh water on blisters.

Rubbing cornstarch on the area affected.

Treatment Options

Antivirals, such as acyclovir, famciclovir, and valacyclovir are the most effective medications available for people infected with HSV. These can help to reduce the severity and frequency of symptoms, but cannot cure the infection.
